We will design an installation for a participant's roof, with costs, funding choices, savings, and cash flow analysis. A participant can arrange for up to 3 bids for their site if it is good for a money saving solar electric installation. Conservation, efficiency and energy choices will be discussed. Make a Solar Electric Module To Be Rescheduled The group assembles one 60 watt 12 volt DC (nominal), 3.5 amp, solar module, working with solar cells, solder,"ribbon" wire, tempered glass, silicon encapsulant and silicon sealer. The module will be available to buy at the end of the workshop. (The workshop continues through lunch, tea, water, snacks provided, so please bring lunch or you can order out.) Fee $125 ... Will be rescheduled COMING UP Saturday May 12, 2012 9:30am-6pm Make Solar Electric Chargers (possibly 2 chargers) Learn to cut solar cells, and solder the cells into strings to give the correct volts and amps for your solar electric chargers. Possibly make two solar chargers to take home, one for your cell phone (if your cell phone is not too complicated), and one for charging AA, AAA, C and D rechargable batteries for your merchant card processor, flashlight or.... Fee $125 + $25 materials fee Thursday June 14, 2012 6:30pm-9pm Residential (and Coop Condo/Commercial) Rooftop Solar Electric Learn how to evaluate your building's roof for a solar PV (electric) installation, please bring your electric/gas bill or at least your electric account number, a calculator, the footprint and size of the roof. We will look at several participants' rooftops and utility usage, then create a sample installation, with costs including subsidies, energy created, and cash flow analysis. There will be slides of rooftop installations. If your building has good solar radiance, you can sign up with City Solar for up to 3 bids from different installers. Conservation and efficiency will be discussed. Fee $35 Thursday August 9, 2012 6:30pm-9pm Solar Hot Water For All Rooftops Learn how to evaluate a building's roof or south facing wall (your's especially) for a solar hot water installation, please bring the building's gas bills for a year ($ and therms), account number, a calculator, the footprint and size of the roof. We will look at several participants' rooftops and utility usage, then create a sample installation, with costs including subsidies, energy created, and cash flow analysis. There will be slides of rooftop installations. Installers will be invited. Conservation and efficiency will be discussed.
